People/companies do have choices: if you don't like Apple's platform, don't use it; pick another platform you do like, or, try to develop an (open) platform yourself.

Copia could shake up the E-book market

ReadWriteWeb has an interesting article on Copia, which unveiled an E-Book platform and 6 E-Readers.

The article concludes asking: ‘Can this work?’ Copia’s strategy is a lot like Amazon’s, which has been quite successful. On the other hand, Copia doesn’t have any name recognition yet in the e-book market.

I do think Copia can be a successful player. This is because Copia is a full concept optimized towards the potential of e-books, while other players have organically grown into it. This includes social, collaboration and e-book annotation (sharing) features.

The chances of Copia are reinforced because they allow OEMs to make use of all the features they offer through an open platform.
